“Instant Family” Brings Adoption From Foster Care to the Big Screen! | Adoption Agency Bethesda, MD | Barker Adoption Foundation

In September Barker staff, along with employees from other local adoption and foster care agencies had the privilege of attending a pre-screening of the movie Instant Family. To say that this movie is well done is an understatement. We laughed, we cried and we saw the work that we do come to life on the big screen with this accurate, yet funny depiction of some of the joys and challenges that can come with older child adoption. 

We are always continuing to seek ways to bring awareness to the over 100,000 children in the foster care system that need a family. Since 2007, Barker has placed over 150 older children from the foster care system into permanent and loving adoptive families through our Project Wait No Longer program, but the need continues to be great.

This National Adoption Month, we ask you to join in this effort with us.  Here are some things you can do to help:

1. Attend or prompt a friend to attend our upcoming older child pre-adoption training - P.R.I.D.E. In this four-week comprehensive training session, you will learn more about the children who are waiting for families in the foster care system, and the skills and resources needed to successfully parent them. Visit our events calendar for our next training date. 
2. You can invite us to your house of worship, job or community group to do an in-person “lunch and learn” or presentation about during National Adoption Month to help spread the word about the great need for adoptive families.
3. You can form a group to go see the movie Instant Family!  It will make for a family-friendly night out and will help to bring awareness to the need for families for waiting children.
4. You can make a donation to Project Wait No Longer to help fund the important work that we are doing!
