After the success of last year's program, we're thrilled to announce that Barker's Summer Fun Program is officially open for registrations. Get ready to dive into a one or two week unique experience designed to empower your child's sense of self, build resilience, strengthen friendships, and of course, have an absolute blast!
What to Expect:
Our Summer Fun Program is tailored for rising 4th to 8th graders within the adoption community. Each week-long adventure will include outdoor and indoor activities, arts & crafts, and adoption-focused exercises. Here's a sneak peek into what your child can look forward to:
Empowering Self and Resilience: Through engaging activities, we aim to instill a sense of empowerment and resilience in your child, fostering a positive mindset that will carry them through various life experiences.
Strengthening Friendships and Social Skills: Building lasting connections with other adoptive youth is at the heart of our program. Fun group activities and team-building exercises will strengthen social skills and create friendships that extend beyond the summer.
Managing Big Emotions: We understand the importance of emotional well-being. Our program includes thoughtful exercises to help children navigate and express their emotions in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Exploring Adoption Identity: Adoption is a unique journey, and here at Barker, we celebrate it! Our adoption-focused sessions will provide a space for children to explore their adoption identity, fostering a positive and proud self-image.
Outdoor Activities: Last year, our youth loved our outdoor activities! Activities will take place at Barker's Bethesda office and two local parks. Here's a list of activities your kiddo can expect to partake in:

- Make Your Own T-shirt
